There has been serious doubt over Ireland’s participation in this year’s Motocross of Nations, set to take place at the iconic Ironman venue in the USA. Initially, the message was clear—there would be no Irish team sent to the event in 2025.

However, in a surprising turn of events, an announcement followed after a public kick back, stating that applications were open for the team manager role, with interested parties also asked to provide a business plan outlining how they would fund and organize the trip.

Former team manager Philip McCullough responded publicly, expressing his strong desire to lead Team Ireland back to the MXoN stage. McCullough also presented a well-structured proposal and plan with the goal of taking a competitive team to Ironman.

The topic was discussed at a recent MCUI MX commission meeting, and while no final decision has yet been made, there has at least been movement in a positive direction. The next step for McCullough will be to provide further financial details and planning to prove the viability of Ireland’s attendance at this year’s Nations. At this moment it is not clear if any other interested parties submitted an application.

We can confirm that McCullough had a personal assistant at the meeting to record minutes. He was also asked if he’d take a youthful or experienced team when McCullough named the five riders that he would consider selecting at this years event if all goes ahead: Martin Barr, Lennox Dickinson, Glenn McCormick, Cole McCullough and Jason Meara – in no particular order.

With the clock ticking and the event drawing closer, time will tell whether the green jerseys will once again be lining up on the gate for the biggest motocross race of the year.

The following update was provided via Philip McCullough:

Delighted to have been asked to meet with the MCUI MX Commission tonight to discuss the proposal I put forward for MXON ‘25 Team Ireland.

We discussed the proposal in detail and I greatly appreciated the opportunity to talk over the finer details in person.

I have agreed to forward more in depth financials for their review, and I await the conclusion of discussions from their upcoming internal meetings.

I will do my utmost to keep everyone updated as things progress.

Thank you for your continued support.
