It was only yesterday that Yamaha revealed that Maxime Renaux will miss the next two rounds of the MXGP World Championship. But in a wild turn of events, the French rider will travel to Portugal and hope to get permission to race in Portugal this weekend.
Renaux’s injury is an acute contusion to his gluteal region and left hip joint but he is clearly determined to try and keep his MXGP title hopes alive.
Yamaha confirmed the news via the following update in a recent press release:
Following the announcement yesterday regarding the absence of Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Maxime Renaux, the Frenchman has experienced a remarkable turnaround in his condition.
Following consultations with his medical team and a successful afternoon spent at a local practice track in Belgium, where he tested his strength and fitness on the bike, Renaux’s improvement has exceeded expectations.
Renaux will arrive in Agueda this afternoon where he will undergo a fitness test with the FIM. A final decision regarding participation will be made following these assessments.
We will keep you updated on Renaux’s situation as and when we hear more.
